Wed. Nite Oldtimers Hockey League

Wed. Nite Oldtimers will operate a 6 team league playing hockey on Wednesday nights at Long Branch Arena from Sept. 2022 to  March, 2023.  Games times are 8:00 / 9:00 / 10:00 pm. 

Games consist of two 17 minute minute stop- time periods, with a 2 minute warm up.  No changing of ends.  Games must start at the stated time no matter how many players are available to start.

   All teams are required to print the names and numbers of all their players on the game sheet prior to the first game of the season.  If there is a conflict in colours of sweaters, the HOME team must wear white.  Each team must have a minimum of 7 skaters plus a goaltender by the end of the first period, or they forfeit that game and the two points are awarded to the opposing team.  Any team that forfeits a game is subject to review by the league executive.

   All new players must be a minimum of 50 years old (no exceptions) by December 31, 2022.  Proof of age is to show the driver's licence with photograph to one of the league executive, before they play their second game.  Any team that uses an under- aged player will forfeit that game.  The second time, that team will be subject to review by the league executive.  All teams are required to submit a final list of players of no more than 20 players to the league Chairman by November 25, 2022.  To be eligible for the playoffs, a player must have played in at least 7 games during the regular season.  Spare goaltenders must have played at least 2 games.  The time keeper will check off the players present at each game.

   If there is  a  5 goal  spread in  the last period, there will be running time in the last 5 minutes

ROUND- ROBIN PLAYOFFS - TIE BREAKING FORMAT

  Should teams be tied in points at the end of the round- robin playoffs, the advancing  team will  be decided  upon using  the following format.

1.  Result of the game between the two tied teams.

2.  If still tied, the team with the best regular season record.

3.  If still tied, the team with the least number of penalty minutes in the round robin.

4.  If still tied, the executive of the league will decide a further method to determine a winner.

The following rules for offences are in addition to the normal playing rules of hockey.  Each player must read and understand the rules.  Each team is responsible for sitting out suspended players.  Any team playing a suspended player will forfeit that game, so please check the game sheets carefully after a game if you have any doubts.  Suspended players are not allowed on the players bench or anywhere near the bench.  They are welcome at the game but are to stay on the other side of the arena.

Referees are instructed to stop play immediately in all cases where there is suspicion that a player has sustained an injury, regardless of which team has the puck.

Players who lose their helmet shall not be allowed to participate in the play.  For an infraction of this rule, a minor penalty shall be assessed.

Three penalties in one game to the same player, and that player is out of the game.  No additional penalty is given.

Co-incidental minor penalties will be used by the league.  That is, if both teams receive minor penalties at the same time-- those players serve their time in the penalty box, but the teams do not play short handed on the ice.  This rule only applies when an equal number of players receive an equal number of penalties on the same stoppage of play.

BODYCHECKING is not allowed and a minor penalty will be assessed for that infraction.

HIGH STICKING CONTACT OF PUCK will result in a whistle and a face off in the offending team’s end.

Any player receiving a MAJOR penalty, (except for accidental high stick) will be removed from that game and will be suspended for their next game.

Any player receiving a MATCH penalty for FIGHTING will be removed from that game and will be suspended for the next 3 games.  Any player receiving a SECOND MATCH penalty for FIGHTING in the same season will be SUSPENDED  for 6 games and will not play again until his case has been reviewed by the disciplinary committee.

The league will use the Clearing the Zone offside rule.  If there is a delayed offside, all attacking players MUST COMPLETELY CLEAR the attacking zone by making skate contact with the blueline before the offside can be nullified.  If the puck is shot on goal, causing the goalie to play the puck, play shall be stopped immediately for the offside violation.

MOLESTING OFFICIALS : Any player or team official who threatens or attempts to strike a referee during or after a game shall be assessed a MATCH PENALTY and immediate SUSPENSION  will occurr. A disciplinary committee shall be convened as soon as reasonably possible to determine further action as required.

The league will participate under the C.A.R.H.A. rules with the games being played using stop time.  A minor penalty will be 2 minutes stop time.  A major penalty will be 5 minutes and a misconduct will be 10 minutes stop time.

THREE  MATCH penalties for fighting, or any other reason in one season will result in a ONE YEAR SUSPENSION, subject to the decision of the disciplinary committee. A MATCH plus a GROSS in the same season will result in a 1 YEAR SUSPENSION.

Any player receiving a MATCH penalty will be SUSPENDED  for a MINIMUM of 3 GAMES, and will not play again until his case is reviewed by a panel of the Chairman and team Reps from 4 teams not involved in that game.  The panel will review the case within 2 weeks of the incident.

Any player receiving a GAME MISCONDUCT will be SUSPENDED  for the NEXT GAME.

Any player receiving a GROSS MISCONDUCT will be SUSPENDED  for the NEXT 3 GAMES.  A ten minute misconduct does not remove a player from that game unless it happens to be one of his three penalties as in rule 3.

Three GAME MISCONDUCTS and / or GROSS MISCONDUCTS or any combination totalling 3 in one season will result in a 1 YEAR SUSPENSION for that player.  The 1 year suspension will start from the date of the incident.

Game Eject Penalty.  When any player(s) persists in displaying unsportsmanlike conduct in their play or any persistent conduct that could warrant the calling of a misconduct penalty,  a Game Eject Penalty can be assessed for that game only.

Excessive penalty infractions by an individual player or team will be reviewed by the Governing Body.

The City of Etobicoke has made it mandatory that players (and referees) wear at least a CSA approved half shield face mask and internal mouth guard.  CSA approved helmets are also mandatory.

Icing will be called when the puck is shot down the ice from inside the defender's blue line.

Slew footing will be called as a MATCH Penalty.

Teams that default a game by not having enough

players will be penalized by the league with a $50 fine for the first

game defaulted.  $100 dollar fine will be imposed for the second

game defaulted. A third game defaulted in the same season will

place that team under review as to whether they will be allowed

GENERAL  LEAGUE  RULES

If the referee rules that a slap shot has been taken or attempted, the play will be blown dead and the ensuing face off will occur in the offending team’s end of the ice.  No penalties will be called.

REGULAR  SEASON  STANDINGS - TIE  BREAKING FORMAT

  Should teams  be tied  in points  at the end of  the regular season, the advancing team will be decided upon using the following format.

1.  Head to head results of the games between the two tied teams.

2.  If still tied, the team with the most wins.

3.  If still tied, the team with the better goal differential.

4.  If still tied, the team with the fewest number of penalty minutes.

                  CHAMPIONSHIP GAME OVERTIME RULES

 The two teams will play 5 skaters each for five minutes.  The next five minutes will be four skaters per team, and then if still tied, three skaters per team.  If the game is still tied, then there will be a shoot out.
